About me
Debbie Cleveland has been a Public School Choral Music Educator for 35 years, and was named the 2018 NAfME/BHS National Music Educator of the Year. Her choirs at Gaither High School are consistently rated "Superior" and are selected to perform at EPCOT's Candlelight Processional as well as Saint Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. Besides sponsoring a Barbershop Harmony Club at school, her top 70-voice traditional choir became an award-winning barbershop chorus known as the "Hurricane of Harmony". They won top ratings and placement at the 2018 and 2019 Midwinter Youth Chorus Festival, as well as being named Audience Favorite both years. Debbie has been the Coordinator and Girls' Clinician for the annual Hillsborough County Barbershop Workshop for 20 years, serving 300 students from 20-25 schools each year. She is also a yearly Clinician with Tony DeRosa at the Sunshine District Harmony Explosion Camp, and the University of Missouri St. Louis's Acappellooza with Dr. Jim Henry. All three 2019 gold medalist youth quartets ("Wildfire" BHS Next Gen Champ, "Duly Noted" SAI Rising Star Champs, "Singing Double" BHS Junior Quartet Champ) have members who were students at Gaither High School, introduced to barbershop by Debbie.
